Title : Payroll Clerk

Pay : $25–$28/hr

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM CST

Location: The Woodlands, TX

On-site: 20%
Remote: 80%

Job Overview

As a Payroll Clerk, you will play a critical role in ensuring payroll tax compliance and accuracy. Your responsibilities include managing payroll tax filings, reconciling discrepancies, and assisting with special projects. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and a customer-focused mindset.

Primary Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations through quarterly reviews and reconciliation of tax filings.
Research and resolve discrepancies with tax agencies, including obtaining refunds when necessary.
Verify the accuracy of employee wage and tax statements (W-2s).
Manage entries for quarterly error and adjustment reports.
Review and validate SIT, Local account numbers, and SUI rates across payroll systems, making updates as needed.
Provide resolutions for payroll tax discrepancies, including paycheck earnings, deduction taxation, W-2 inquiries, and exemptions.
Serve as a backup for managing incoming/outgoing mail and the Payroll Tax Mailbox.
Handle special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

1–3 years of experience in payroll tax compliance in a large, multistate environment (U.S.).
Familiarity with Workday and ADP SmartCompliance preferred.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet short deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
Willingness to work overtime as needed.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent troubleshooting and issue resolution abilities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
