The Coordinator of Academic Support & New Student Engagement provides support to Southwest Minnesota State University's recruitment and retention efforts by developing and managing annual programming designed to facilitate student engagement, learning, and success. Primarily, this position coordinates annual student programming including Gold Rush Days, Mustang Success Night, and a spring Welcome Week. This position also co-manages all operations of SMSU's Supplemental Instruction (SI) program with a designated SI Faculty liaison, organizes interdisciplinary tutoring support within the Deeann Griebel Student Success Center, and serves as the main liaison at SMSU for Tutor.com through Minnesota State. This position also assists the Deeann Griebel Student Success Center team with early alert intervention support for at-risk students, academic advising for undeclared students, and serves as a backup for test proctoring and course placement services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in developmental education, education, counseling, or a related field with one year of professional experience in higher education.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and familiarity with academic support at a post-secondary level and in working with diverse populations of students. 

  • Ability to interact with, communicate with (both oral and written), and relate to others. 

  • Demonstrated experience in program planning, development, and assessment.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team, to work collaboratively and to foster strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Certification as a CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) tutor and/or tutoring supervisor.

  • Experience in administering a learning center or tutoring program.

  • Ability to demonstrate experience with supervising student employees.

  • Certifications as a test proctor for ACCUPLACER or ability to obtain within three months of hire.

  • Completion of Supplemental Instruction (SI) supervision training through University of Missouri - Kansas City or ability to obtain within three months of hire.

  • Knowledge of online course management system, student records information systems, customer relation systems, degree audits, website content management, and the academic catalog.
