Location: NE Washington D.C. (20018 zip code)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule and Flexibility:

  • On-site to start; will consider 2-days remote hybrid after initial 2-3 month training period
  • 40 hours/week – Flexible start and end times (5:30AM – 9AM)

We’re currently looking for an experienced Staff/Senior Accountant to join a high-performance accounting team.

This role will be key in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting day-to-day accounting functions, and assisting with the preparation of financial statements. Key Responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Management:
    Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the general ledger, including preparing and reviewing journal entries and ensuring proper account coding.
    Assist with overseeing daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
    Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
    Contribute to the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures to enhance internal controls.

  • Account Reconciliation:
    Prepare and review account reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
    Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly and ensure reconciliations comply with established policies and audit requirements.

  • Financial Statement Preparation:
    Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    Collaborate with leadership to provide detailed variance analysis and financial insights.
    Assist in preparing reports for management, stakeholders, and auditors.

  • Additional Accounting Functions:
    Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions as needed to ensure accurate integration into financial records.
    Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation during audits.
    Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes.
    Help implement and administer new accounting and project management systems.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Experience:
    3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in the construction, manufacturing, or a related industry.
    Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
    Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

  • Skills & Abilities:
    Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
    Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment with changing demands and timelines.
    A proactive attitude and a desire to grow professionally and assume more responsibility.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range: $70,000 to $85,000 (commensurate with experience).
