Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a professional Senior Health Educator position responsible for providing health promotion, health equity, and public health education services in Broward County. This position is under the supervision of the COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL SERVICE MANAGER I in the Community Health Division of a large County Health Department. Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Supporting the development and implementation of policy and environmental changes that will impact tobacco prevention and control efforts for the Florida Department of Health in Broward including but not limited to areas of Smokefree Multiunit Housing and Point of Sale Advertising.

Collaboration with the Tobacco Prevention Specialist on the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all strategies and activities as outlined in the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida annual work plan to address assigned policy areas.

Confers with the Tobacco Prevention Specialist to complete and submit quarterly reports in the Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS), special reports, end of year reports, and other requests for information.

Preparing presentations to facilitate meetings, trainings, key informant interviews, and/or workshops.

Coordinating and attending community wide events to promote tobacco free environments and Florida’s Quit Your Way resources.

Plans and coordinates the development and implementation of health promotion and public health education projects related to tobacco and tobacco related health topics for property managers, leasing consultants, condominium board members, and local tobacco retailers.

Assist local multiunit housing communities with smoke free policy development, implementation, and enforcement.

Participating in Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County meetings and providing monthly updates of program and policy implementation activities and related information.

Performs related work as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  2. Experience conducting community outreach.
  3. Experience developing and conducting educational presentations.
  4. Experience preparing written reports.
  5. Experience collaborating with community partners.
  6. Valid driver’s license free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.
  7. Non-Smoker 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Public Health, Health Education, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
  2. One year experience working for a large public health agency.
  3. Data collection and analysis experience.
