SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Plant City, FL

SALARY RANGE DOQ: $72,800 - $118,664

 

Position Summary:

Professional position that applies the principles of accounting over various transactions to include finance, accounting, debt, financial reporting and other relatable transactions. Monitors adherence to requirements consistent with governmental accounting requirements imposed by the State and other governing bodies. The position requires a deep understanding of governmental accounting standards, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments to maintain financial integrity. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.

  • Accurately interprets and monitors financial data to ensure successful strategic outcomes.
  • Executes a variety of accounting, financial, budgetary, or statistical reports and projects.
  • Prepares and submits annual required state reports.
  • Conducts research projects requiring a high degree of analytical ability, familiarity with City policy and procedures, and considerable knowledge of computer applications.
  • Collaborates with Chief Accountant to produce the required financial deliverables and implement improvements to facilitate efficient and effective operations.
  • Participates in the annual City’s audit and preparation of Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Prepares, maintains, and reviews financial records and reports, analyzes systems and procedures, and recommends modifications and improvements to the accounting system.
  • Prepares schedules and reports for the external auditors.
  • Monitors accounting and budgetary records in accordance with the Uniform Accounting System of the Florida Department of Financial Services Bureau of Local Government.
  • Performs month-end and quarter-end closing and reporting functions.
  • Track and assess accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconciles various subsidiary and general ledger accounts.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted governmental accounting principles and accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of rules promulgated by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting, budgeting. financial management, and reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of budgetary procedures and controls.
  • Knowledge of procurement procedures and contracts.
  • Knowledge of the Uniform Accounting System of the Florida Department of Financial Services Bureau of Local Government.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations pertaining to government fiscal management.
  • Ability to prepare accounting and auditing reports and financial statements.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and discern underlying problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in financial management, evaluating situations, and making decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s in finance, accounting, business administration, financial management or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible government finance and accounting experience.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered at the City Manager’s discretion.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) certificate, preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.
