Pharmacist (Spring Grove Hospital Center)-(240001SU )

The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP), Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (PSHOR ) has an opening for a Pharmacist located at Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville, MD.

Founded in 1797, the Spring Grove Hospital Center is the second oldest, continuously operating psychiatric hospital in the United States. Operated by the Maryland Department of Health, the hospital is a 397-bed psychiatric facility serving involuntarily committed and forensic patients. This position is responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and pharmaceuticals to patients and performs other related pharmacy services.

Established in 1841, the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) is the fourth oldest school of pharmacy in the United States. As a leader in pharmacy education, scientific discovery, patient care, and community engagement; the School conducts cutting-edge research and engages in a wide variety of professional practice activities to improve the health and well-being of citizens in the state of Maryland and beyond.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Dispenses and distributes medications in a safe and accurate manner.
  • Reviews and interprets medical orders; provides drug information and recommends drug therapies to providers.
  • Reviews patient medication profiles. Actively monitors medication use in individual patients and populations.
  • Conducts drug utilization reviews.
  • Provides quality improvement services necessary for accreditation, certification or maintenance of licenses and permits.
  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with clinical privileges.
  • May precept students.
  • May perform administrative duties, such as staff scheduling, supervision of pharmacy technicians, and coordination of drug utilization reporting.
  • May coordinate programs or projects related to the use and monitoring of medications.
  • Monitors and orders drugs and supplies.
  • Provides weekly on-call coverage once a month.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Doctoral degree in pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Current Maryland licensure in good standing to practice as a pharmacist or a federal district licensure where the work will be performed upon hire.

OTHER: Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Employees in this job class may be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

Note: This position is considered essential to the daily operations within the School of Pharmacy (SOP) and Mental Health Program (PSHOR) to provide an advanced level of clinical services at the professional level focusing on medication use in patients and populations. Provides weekly on-call coverage once a month.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their indications, interactions, and potential side effects.
  • Skill in the effective use of applicable technology/systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with people at all levels, working cooperatively with others and independently.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

HIRING RANGE: ($) $120,000 - $130,000 per year ( Commensurate with education and experience)
