Outside Sales - Power & Utility
Target Compensation:
$90,000 - $100,000 base plus commission; $150,000 - $180,000 on target earnings (OTE)
The company is a leading provider of replacement expansion joint systems, penetration seal systems, and HRSG duct/liner replacement systems sold to power plants that provide power plant and utility customers with a turn-key solution for their repair and maintenance needs driven by an engineering first approach. Once a solution is designed, company manufactures the components, and the field services team completes the on-site installation. The sales team is expanding and looking to add an outside salesperson. This energetic individual will focus within the state of Texas through Colorado. As an outside sales representative , you will travel to power plants within your territory, developing new relationships and growing existing relationships with the goal of identifying sales opportunities. This role will utilize a fully developed proprietary CRM database to facilitate prospecting and market coverage. This territory is currently underserved and has significant growth potential. The customized solution and driven salesperson represent a tremendous opportunity. This is a remote position with the bulk of time spent making on-site, in-person visits, and the balance spent working from home. The company will provide considerable support including training, CRM access, and other internal resources. You will be paired with a project engineer in the territory to provide you with all the technical support required to prospect and close opportunities. Most sales opportunities have a unique set of circumstances requiring a customized company solution, hence teaming up with the engineering department. Once you have identified an opportunity, you will involve your engineering counterpart, coordinate a technical visit, and navigate the sale together from quoting to closing.
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Create and implement a sales strategy to meet the sales goals established by the company.
- Communicate with all current and potential customers on a regular basis and oversee all sales activity in your assigned sales territory.
- Reach out to customer leads through cold calling.
- Conduct regular and productive contact with customers and customer representatives and is often actively involved in the result of the sales.
- Supply management with reports on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products and services.
- Coordinate with other members of the sales team and team leaders as needed to generate sales and provide excellent customer service.
- Submit reports on your sales activity regularly into the company’s CRM software and maintain clean and updated records for all leads and customers.
- Adhere to all company procedures, values, and policies so that you provide an accurate representation of the company to all potential and current customers.
- Perform your duties as efficiently as possible, reducing costs when possible, and maintain receipts for all job-related expenses and submit them to accounting in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with the accounts receivable department to ensure that all invoices are paid in full in a timely manner by your customers.
Working Conditions and Travel Expectations:
- The work for this role takes place outdoors regardless of weather conditions or temperature.
- The environment is an industrial setting that includes constant wearing of PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety gloves, and ear plugs.
- Regularly visits field sites to follow up on jobs that were sold and consult with the customer.
- During the week you will visit sites and meet clients, as well as plan the following weeks’ trips. Traditionally it’s been valuable to fly into a city, meet all the surrounding plants and then fly to the next. This position is pure sales/relationship building and will consist of 75% travel/25% home office.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 5+ years ’ experience in sales, specifically outside/traveling sales.
- Territorial vs local sales are preferred.
- Intermediate computer skills and ability to utilize our web-based and mobile sales applications (SalesForce.com)
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook
- Customer service driven with a high sense of urgency.
- Ability to follow protocol, implement process, and think on your feet.
- Very organized and extremely driven
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both verbal and written.
