Experience working with college students in a diverse and complex university setting is an important criterion for this position.
The successful candidate must possess specific knowledge of race, culture, nationality, language, immigration status, and issues of concern related to underserved people and communities in higher education. A demonstrated commitment to work in a multicultural, social justice oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds and identities must be in evidence within past work experience.
The candidate must possess the ability to foster a supportive and student-centered environment; strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills; and have proven ability to work collaboratively, build coalitions, and sustain partnerships.
Disposition: A non-negotiable and essential element of this role is a demonstrated disposition toward supporting underserved people (e.g., BIPOC, undocumented, international, and those for whom English is not a first language) in their struggle for full and equitable access in society. A disposition that uncritically encourages assimilation or sublimation of these identities, even if under the guise of âœbenevolentâ opinion, preference or religious belief, is inappropriate in this role and counter to the foundational mission of the Intercultural Center at Brandeis.
