Job Description

Seeking an I & C Technician to be responsible for the maintenance and installation of new instrumentation. In this role, you will maintain equipment and structure used in the collection, transportation, storage and processing of water and wastewater, perform corrective and preventative maintenance on instrumentation, electronic and electrical operating control systems, equipment, fixtures, and devices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install electrical circuits, relays, switchgear, wiring, electronic alarms, control panels, and telemetry equipment used in the operation and monitoring of 480v systems, water pumps, and telemetry systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, test, rebuild, make modifications to programs, and/or calibrate water treatment instrumentation; test and monitor automated control devices, electrical relays, electrical and mechanical pump parts, motors, VFDs, starters, soft starts, control valves, telemetry systems, and other electronic control equipment.
  • Perform programming of automated process control equipment, PLCs, VFDs, valves, and telemetry systems.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Operations staff on troubleshooting equipment failures, repairs, and training.
  • Test and repair cathodic protection systems.
  • Prepare required reports for necessary entities, schedules, and coordinates contractor work.
  • Perform testing, maintenance, and repair metering and recording instruments, control apparatus, data logging, and display equipment, communications and telemetering systems, and laboratory equipment.
  • Read, interpret, modify, and implement operation and training manuals.
  • Maintain records and reports of work performed, use of asset management software participates on the asset management team, and reviews and modifies the ticket system accordingly.
  • Update schematic drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Interact with the public, outside agencies, and employees concerning complaints.
  • Train Operation staff accordingly.
  • Work a variety of hours and days, including holidays and weekends, on-call rotation schedule, and overtime as needed.
  • Provide backup coverage for other positions.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of journey-level experience in electrical and electronic construction, repair, and maintenance, preferably in a water or wastewater treatment industry, hydroelectric plant, power plant or similar facilities.
  • Related technical coursework or Associates in Electronics or Instrumentation preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MS operating systems and domain networking; MS Office applications; TCP/IP network systems; computerized instrumentation systems; transformers, switches; electronic components of telemetry systems and components.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, PPE, and procedures relating to electrical controls and equipment.
  • Ability to read, use and update electrical, electronic piping, and instrument drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of PLC Application Software preferred, but not necessary.
  • Aptitude to work independently with minimal supervision, and have the ability to use sound judgment as well as effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, consultants, contractors, industry personnel and the general public. This includes working with many individuals from diverse backgrounds and points of view as part of a project team.
  • Ability to follow verbal directions, written policies, and procedures accurately and completely; perform and follow through on diverse tasks, as well as adapt to changing technology, priorities and conditions on demand.
