**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** Day Shift **Description:** The cancer genetic counselor will be part of a genetic counseling team, leading the Cancer Genetics evaluation program at Loyola and its associated sites. This individual will work closely with physicians as well as administration to continue to develop the growing genetic program and provide excellent patient care within a multidisciplinary setting. The primary responsibility of this counselor will be educating patients and families about their conditions, possible risks of cancer and appropriate management. This will include obtaining and examining personal and family medical histories to assess risk of genetic disease, facilitate patient decision-making and provide appropriate referrals. This will include obtaining and examining personal and family medical histories to assess risk of genetic disease, facilitate patient decision-making and provide appropriate referrals. **Required: Candidates must have Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from American Board of Genetic** Meet with patients and families to evaluate personal & family history; performs risk assessment to determine the likelihood of genetic contribution to disease. Identify at-risk patients & families; investigates psychosocial dynamics, interprets information regarding family history. Analyzes inheritance patterns and cancer risk. Reviews testing options with family. Attend multi-disciplinary conferences. Provides support and participates in departmental educational programs, whether in-services, or staff meetings. Participates in training and orientation of peers, as well as genetic counseling graduate students.. Conduct educational programs for physicians, medical students, genetic counselors, nursing staff and other health professionals. Performs and demonstrates competence in genetic counseling. Recognizes, identifies and communicates genetic risks through assessment. Provide comprehensive information in culturally appropriate terms, along with informed consent, including all appropriate options. Interpret genetic laboratory results for patients and physicians. Facilitate patient decision making process. Provide short term patient support, demonstrating empathy and a nurturing environment. Document the content of genetic counseling sessions into the EMR. Protect patient rights and privacy. Obtains required CEU's as required by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Monitors and integrates new technologies, theories and resources into daily work. **Position Requirements** : **Minimum Education:** **Required:** Masters Degree **Preferred:** N/A **Specify Degree(s):** Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from American Board of Genetic Counseling **Minimum Experience:** **Required:** 1-2 years of previous job-related experience **Preferred:** 3-5 years of previous job-related experience **Managerial Experience:** 1-2 years **Licensure/Certifications:** **Required:** State of IL Licensed Genetic Counselor **Other:** Board Certified or Board Eligible genetic counselor status by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
