The Jurisdiction and Agency Compliance and Enforcement Branch/Section 2/Unit 1 which is responsible for implementing CalRecycle's statewide Solid Waste Enforcement Program, seeks to manage and mitigate the impacts of solid waste on public health and safety and the environment by enforcing compliance with regulations and state minimum standards, through integrated and consistent permitting, inspection, and enforcement efforts.

This position requires in depth research and problem-solving skills to make environmental compliance and enforcement recommendations for reports, notice of violations (NOVs), corrective action plans (CAPs), compliance orders (COs), agenda items, or other enforcement documents to achieve statewide climate change reduction goals.

This job involves performing compliance oversight for various entities including cities and counties, schools, colleges and universities, and state agencies/facilities for compliance with several environmental laws (e.g., AB 939, AB 341, AB 1826, SB 1383) with an emphasis on cross-division collaboration and a goal of compliance through assistance. As a liaison between these entities and the Department’s programs and services, you will travel to complete verifications up to 25% as well as have the flexibility to telework and/or be office based.

This position entails developing and executing innovative workshops, training sessions and presentations to City Councils, Boards of Supervisors, local task forces, citizens’ advisory councils, and other interested groups.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need.
