Duties
Essential Job Functions:
- Under close supervision of the digital forensics unit trainer(s) and general supervision of the Crime Scene Supervisor, document, collect, process, preserve, and analyze devices on crimes scenes, at secondary locations, and in a controlled lab environment using specialized hardware and software.
- Disassemble and assemble electronic devices as needed.
- Document forensic extraction procedures in written reports.
- Establish and maintain chain of custody to ensure integrity of evidence.
- Maintain all devices within the lab including forensic workstations, servers, and networks.
- Validate all forensic hardware and software to ensure they are forensically sound.
- Participates in a variety of court related activities, including, but not limited to, depositions, pre-trial conferences, and testifying in trial.
- Requires after hour, evening, weekend, holiday on-call rotation.
- Following successful completion of training, moves to working under general supervision.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED and one of the following: one year of college, vocational school, or certificate program majoring in Digital Forensics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other closely related fields.
- CompTIA A+ or a similar entry level computer certification is preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge or experience related to computer technology including, but not limited to, computer operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux), cell phone operating systems (Android, iOS), troubleshooting steps, networking concepts (IP addresses, protocols), cybersecurity fundamentals (CIA Triad).
- Basic knowledge of legal considerations such as chain of custody and search authorities is preferred.
- Be able to follow a standard set of procedures.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
- Obtain NCIC/FCIC certification within 30 days of hire and maintain it.
- Be able to obtain Cellebrite Certified Operator (CCO) and Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA) certifications within 6 months of hire.
- Be willing to attend training and certification courses as needed.
- Be willing to sign a two-year employment contract as needed.
- Must not be on any type of probation including, but not limited to, disciplinary or performance (PIP) probation.
Physical Effort Required:
- The work of this class primarily involves medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, lifting, pushing, and raising objects, virtually all the time and involves exerting between 26 and 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and 51 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Working Conditions:
- This class primarily works in an indoor controlled lab setting but may work in varying conditions outside of the lab at secondary locations, including on scene. In any case there is frequent possibility for exposure to disagreeable elements such as toxic agents, pathogens, chemicals, bodily fluids, strong and noxious odors, drugs, and other biohazards. There is likelihood of frequent exposure to graphic, offensive, sensitive material, and confidential information related to investigations. May work outside of standard office hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays at any time their service is needed. Members will be subject to a callout schedule.
