Job Description

CiTi BOCES has a .6 position for a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist effective September 1, 2024.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students’ visual impairments and their impact on learning.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
• Provide direct instruction and support to students in areas such as orientation, mobility, and adaptive technology.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure students’ access to the curriculum.
• Teach skills related to independent travel, spatial awareness, and environmental navigation.
• Attend IEP meetings and contribute expertise on orientation and mobility.
• May work with students who have additional disabilities.

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
• Knowledge of adaptive technology and assistive devices.
• Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
