Job Description
Kleen Test Products is in search of a Buyer at our Sunset facility in Port Washington, WI. We are looking for a candidate with prior experience (4 years) in Purchasing with a college degree in business or materials management. This candidate must have the ability to understand and adhere to all laws pertaining to procurement and contracts. Candidates must also possess knowledge and use of price and cost analysis and have excellent negotiating skills. Strong project management skills and the ability to work extra hours when necessary to handle spikes in workload and meet deadlines is required. Candidates must be agile in adapting to and working in an ever changing, fast paced, and diverse production environment. This position has 1st shift hours Monday-Friday.
Essential Functions:
- Establish and maintain a mutual respect of suppliers and peers.
- Select and maintain high quality sources of supply as well as evaluate existing and new supplier performance.
- Advise appropriate KTP departments of changes in raw material parameters that affect the operation, including prices, lead times, changes to specifications or other as applicable.
- Resolve communication gaps, manufacturing process problems or delivery delays with Suppliers as they occur. Visits to Supplier sites for issue resolution are rare but may be required as determined by KTP Leadership.
- Manage purchase order volumes and inventory turns in a manner consistent with KTP Procurement strategy.
- Maintain clear and concise records of all problems and correspondences for each purchase order.
- Prepare request for bids for commodities that involve manufacturing of commodities with long lead times and high costs to assure the best supplier for quality, price and on-time delivery and technical knowledge.
- Expedite and de-expedite purchase orders to support changes in the Production Schedule and reflect Make-to-Order / Just in Time Manufacturing Strategy.
- Keep an open line of communication between Purchasing and the other functional areas within the organization.
- Research and analyze costing information for cost reduction/profit improvement for KTP. Identify Cost Savings opportunities where possible.
- Develop inventory management strategies for raw materials, addressing challenges including product life cycles, artwork changes and chemical shelf lives.
- Analyzing cost increases and decreases in relation to past history, cost of living increases, cost of bill of materials, cost of labor, profit margins, etc. Push back on Cost Increases and advocate for Cost Decreases where potential opportunities are identified.
- Remain up to date on all laws pertaining to procurement: UCC, law of agency, valid contracts, customs, duties, ETC.
- Document Purchasing systems and processes. Maintain relevant data in Company Systems (Syspro), including but not limited to Item Setups, Price Schedules, Supplier Setups, MRP Setups.
- All other duties assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s, preferably in Purchasing or related area.
- Prior experience (4+ years) in Purchasing, Sourcing or Procurement.
- Requires the ability to understand and adhere to all laws pertaining to procurement and contracts.
- Strong negotiating and project management skills.
- Understanding of MRP concepts and ERP system functionality.
- Ability to work extra hours when necessary to handle spikes in workload and meet deadlines.
- ASCM Certification a plus.
