ASSOCIATE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY: The Community Legal Center (CLC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation located in Memphis, Tennessee, seeks an Associate Executive Director who demonstrates a passion for serving and advocating for lower income individuals and other vulnerable populations. The AED works under the direction of the Executive Director to perform financial, human resources, and IT duties. The AED also works directly with the Executive Director to provide leadership to the organization and to positively represent CLC at community events throughout the Memphis area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Responsible for the administration and ongoing daily operations of the organization, which includes, but is not limited to, all aspects of Operations Management, Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology

● Prepare and submit monthly financial reports to the Executive Director and external accountant.

● In partnership with the ED, responsible for promoting a culture of high performance, continuous learning and improvement that supports the effective advancement of the organization’s values and mission, and managing the process and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.

● Create and update policies and procedures, ensure that effective internal controls are in place and adhered to.

● Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reports for a variety of funding institutions

● Coordinate volunteers and interns, including scheduling, onboarding, and effective placement within the organization

● Aid in keeping office-wide statistics for use in grant reports and other activities

● Order office supplies, maintain and monitor supply levels, including of technology equipment

● Prepares and posts job openings in consultation with management. Coordinates and conducts new employee onboarding and makes certain that staff members receive appropriate training and/or professional development throughout the year.

● Assist in managing the performance management process, ensuring that each employee has a timely annual performance plan and appraisal. Review industry standards regarding compensation to determine if salaries are fair and competitive.

● Support office staff in their information technology needs, as well as maintaining subscriptions and licenses for office software and hardware

● Participate in weekly leadership meetings with the Executive Director and Director of Development and Communications

● Promote CLC in the community

● Comply with all CLC policies and procedures

● Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Minimum of five (5) years of professional management experience

● Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required in Business Administration or related degree (with an emphasis in finance/accounting or human resources is preferred)

● Demonstrated abilities to work independently, lead multiple projects, prioritize, and manage a high-volume of tasks, deadlines, requirements and decisions

● Leadership and teamwork skills

● Strong work ethic and integrity

● Time management and ability to prioritize and work quickly when necessary

● Good written and verbal communication and advocacy skills

● Proficiency in G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite – especially Word and Excel.

● Knowledge of nonprofit legal organizations a plus

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment, some remote work, occasional evening or variable hours to attend events.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY RANGE: Salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
