The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning, the Associate Director, Assessment and Strategic Initiatives plays a critical role in advancing the University?s teaching and learning mission by developing evidence-based educational development practices, evaluating the impact of teaching initiatives, and driving the execution of strategic priorities. This position supports the Center in fostering innovation and excellence within Columbia's teaching community through comprehensive assessment and strategic planning efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement robust assessment methodologies for Provost-funded projects and innovative teaching and learning initiatives in collaboration with faculty partners. Ensure methodologies align with institutional priorities and advance the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Design and execute comprehensive analyses of data collected from the CTL?s Client Relationship Management (CRM) database to evaluate both short-term and long-term impacts of CTL programs and services. Partner with Faculty Programs and Services (FPS), Graduate Student Programs and Services (GSPS), and Instructional Technologies Associate Directors and Directors.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to strategize and create design plans and tools to enhance client feedback mechanisms and optimize assessment practices.
  • Work closely with FPS and GSPS colleagues to assess and support the effectiveness of Provost-funded projects.
  • Partner with the Science of Learning Research Initiative (SOLER) to assist faculty in data collection, analysis, and the preparation of evaluation reports. Provide actionable recommendations based on outcomes.
  • Lead the collection and management of CTL activity data through CRM systems, ensuring accurate and timely data summaries for internal team use and annual reporting.
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions and workshops on the assessment of teaching and learning interventions, instrument and assignment design, and other relevant professional development topics.
  • Collaborate with CTL teams to create, update, and disseminate assessment resources and materials. Design and deliver workshops in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Work with the Executive Director to plan, develop, and implement strategic initiatives that align with institutional priorities. Use assessment data to inform and tailor CTL programs, resources, and support services to the needs of the teaching community.
  • Manage and lead cross-functional teams on key initiatives, ensuring clear timelines, actionable deliverables, and thorough analyses. Prepare reports and insights to support decision-making.
  • Facilitate internal organizational change and strategic planning processes in collaboration with the Executive Director. Assist teams in setting goals, creating action steps, tracking progress, and establishing metrics for success.
  • Participate in and lead ad hoc projects as assigned, contributing to the continuous improvement of the CTL and its mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree required and 5-7 years of related experience required.
  • Leadership experience in a postsecondary program (including in an academic and/or co-curricular program) and/or project assessment required.
  • Experience in designing and implementing practices for direct and indirect measures of student learning in higher education required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative research methods and design (including surveys, focus groups, interviews) and proficiency with qualitative data analysis and survey software required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a number of stakeholders, including CTL colleagues, administrators, academic units, faculty, graduate students, and staff required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in pedagogy in higher education required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary and multi-functional project teams required.
  • Ability to work closely with faculty and graduate students across disciplines required.
  • Motivated, independent, and creative thinking required. High level of organization, unwavering attention to detail, and strong commitment to meeting deadlines required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Experience with data management in CRMs and data visualization preferred. Sensitivity to teaching and learning needs at a major research university is preferred.
  • Experience working with a teaching and learning center is strongly preferred.
